The Power of Discipline
"I want to become discipline but I don't know where to start." Read this...
Hey you! Yes you, I’m talking to you!
Are you tired of running away from hard, uncomfortable things?
Bored of doing the same thing all repeatedly…
Knowing that it was too easy to do, became our habit.
Until you are tired of it.
You see, I know you have been making some progress lately, but it is enough? You wanted to make a change – learn something, do challenging kinds of stuff, and others.
You had already planned everything BUT…
You procrastinate.
You procrastinate on the plan that you have planned.
You procrastinate to do it now.
This is what we call mental masturbation. You did learn everything, and plan everything. I know. But you avoid taking constructive action in your life.
My question is, did you do this wrongly? Did you choose the wrong things to make it your habit?
I do have these mistakes. I thought I could have everything – dreaming of becoming an artist, an athlete, a billionaire, and many more.
Dreaming is not wrong. Dream like a child, but don’t let it control you.
I’m seriously telling you that you lack discipline when you procrastinate A LOT.
It is a serious problem and you should get rid of it.
It is like a cancer if you don’t treat it.
You don’t know how to build discipline? Well, here you are!
There are many ways to build self-discipline in your daily life.
Being punctual – you came to the office or class 10 minutes earlier than its exact time. That’s discipline.
Some quick guides to building self-discipline are:
1. Write Your Goals
I did tell you this in my previous email about consistency. Use the SMART technique to help you jot down your goals. Keep in mind that your goals must be achievable, and ask yourself why do want to learn them.
2. Practice Prioritizing
Make a to-do list or an action plan. Simple explanation, use the MoSCoW method.
· M – Must do: Tasks/things you absolutely must do.
· S – Should do: Tasks/things you should do, but they’re a lower priority.
· C – Could do: Tasks/things are nice-to-dos.
· W – Won’t do: Tasks/things that just aren’t worth doing.
3. Know Your Weaknesses
I may say that the only reason why you procrastinate is not knowing your weaknesses. You tend to do something beyond your limit until you give up at the end.
You must acknowledge where you struggle at first.
For example: You know that your weakness is getting distracted. Use logical reasoning for this. What makes you like this? How do you get rid of it?
You wanted to study ➡️ Distracted (Use 5W 1H): The television was on ➡️ Find a way: Close it.
Simple.
But what if when it comes to multiple plans? Use the technique in Point 2. Reschedule it by putting it at your best working hours or free time.
4. Get Others to Hold You Accountable
Extra push is necessarily needed when it comes to work or projects.
Family, friends, colleagues, mentors, and coaches can help keep you on track and always support you when things get busy or hard.
Tips: It is good to have feedback from them so that you can be aware of your habits.
5. Change Your Perspective
Expecting a person to act or a situation to unfold in a certain way, and when it does, is called a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Our mindset is everything.
It determines what we do and how we push forward.
It is okay to stumble. Learn from your mistakes and focus on doing better next time. Stay positive.
6. Be Mindful of Your Urges
We all have urges to avoid things that are difficult or uncomfortable.
Coming out of your comfort zones. Set a timer, permitting yourself to do nothing but a specific task.
Doing this will make you more aware of procrastination or your instinct to run away from a challenge.
7. Forgive Yourself And Move Forward
Mistakes are learning opportunities.
Acknowledge what went wrong and move forward.
Understand that nobody’s perfect, be kind to yourself, and know that you can do better next time.
A reminder, don’t repeat the same mistake…ever again.
8. Have A Backup Plan
Let me ask you.
While you are planning something, do you often have a backup plan?
Yes? – You’re a legend. You know that not everything is going to be perfect.
No? – The reason why you procrastinate a lot. You never have a backup plan!
Rather than worrying, you must let it all out of your mind.
What is disturbing you? There is no need to be afraid.
You still can keep back on your checkpoint and analyze what could have gone wrong.
There is no need to start back at the starting line when you can plan another one at certain checkpoints.
It will help you stay organized, focused, and motivated to work on your goals.
Why discipline is important?
It reduces anxiety, depression, stress, and burnout. Burnout does not come from work; it comes from stress.
Less stress, more discipline, more consistency, and more work will be done in a short amount of time.
By practicing discipline, say goodbye to your old, bad habits and be open to welcome the challenges around you.
I guarantee you a good and healthier life.
“Your story awaits. Seize the pen. Write your masterpiece.”
